The bast fibre from a small tree, the Broussonetia Papyrifera, native of Japan, China, Southern Asia, and Polynesia. The fibre is fine and strong. It is used to make the tape fabric. The bark, after separation from the plant, is steeped in water until the inner and outer layers can be separated easily.
